In the summer of 2017, a young church plant called Saint Moses purchased the historic Huntington Baptist Church building in Charles Village. This was the beginning of a multi-year collaborative effort between Saint Moses and Studio Park to renovate the centarian building.
Starting with site selection, Studio Park worked closely with the development team to establish programmatic requirements which reflected the church’s desire for flexible, versatile gathering spaces, to welcome a variety of community groups. As parts of the building were occupied during construction, and in response to the changing needs of the church in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic, Studio Park provided Basic and Additional Services from SD through CA for construction in multiple phases. Renovations included: upgrades to building systems, including MEP, lighting, fire alarm, security, and A/V; a new elevator, ADA ramps, accessible building entrances, restrooms, and shower facilities; renovations to staff offices, meeting rooms, kids’ classrooms, and kitchen; FF&E; custom furniture design and fabrication; and exterior placemaking signage.

Originally a single-family home built in 1956 on a family farm, Sabbath House is now a retreat center for spiritual formation, with accommodations for up to fifteen overnight guests.
The unique brief for Studio Park was to assist in obtaining a Certificate of Occupancy for Sabbath House, with minimal-to-no proposed changes to the existing floor plan configuration. To this end, Studio Park conducted a feasibility study, working with the AHJ and an MEP/FP consultant to determine what a formal Change of Occupancy from an existing single-family dwelling in an Agricultural (RC2) zone to a mixed, nonseparated occupancy, “Congregate Living Facility” Group R-1 Occupancy would entail.
Studio Park’s building code review included: IBC Chapters 5 &6 for General Building Limitations; IBC Chapter 10 Means of Egress and IEBC; accessibility for existing buildings; life safety plans; and, IBC Chapter 7 Fire Partitions and Horizontal Assemblies. The MEP/FP Basis of Design for a COO entailed among other things: ventilation; electrical service upgrades; lighting fixtures and controls for energy code, and emergency lighting; new FP systems, supply, pump and FD connections; FA and detection systems; CO detection; and FD access.

Study Conducted in 2021-22
In celebration of one hundred years serving the Baltimore building construction community, the National Lumber Company invited Studio Park to reimagine the main entrance of their flagship store and showroom, located on an industrial stretch of Pulaski Highway.
A twenty-one foot high brick parapet wall was erected over the main entrance, to maximize sight lines along the Pulaski Highway approach from the west. New painted brick signage was conceptualized by Studio Park and designed with Ashton Design for the existing brick facades along the east approach, referencing historic painted brick advertisements prevalent in turn-of-the-century Baltimore at the time the National Lumber Company was originally founded,.
Room for a new Marvin windows showroom with 8’x8’ aluminum storefront windows was made within the existing retail footprint, with integrated storm and security shutters hidden behind new exposed steel beam lintels.
